Everything's Eventual

Several Days ago, I picked up Stephen King’s Everything’s Eventual. It’s a collection of 14 short stories. The copy I bought was advertising the fact that “1408” was one of them. There are several quotes talking about the movie. It was annoying; however, I can deal with it when the book only costs $5. I cheaped out on that one.

It’s what’s on the inside that count’s anyway, that goes for people and books. I went through the book quickly, taking on 2 stories a sitting. I read at night mostly. Which is a mistake on my part, if I read horror before bed; it’s harder for me to sleep. Somehow, I made it through.

Each story had its ups and downs. My personal favorite was “The Road Virus Heads North.” It scared the crap out of me. I guess I don’t favor the thought of being decapitated by someone with cannibal teeth. I especially liked the story of how the painting came to be. Bobby Hastings had one of the more legitimate reasons for suicide; he didn’t understand what was “happening to him.” However, that’s understandable when your paintings kill people. In addition, this story was the only one to give me nightmares.

There were also a few funny, (however depressing on some counts) stories in Everything’s Eventual. For instance, “All that you Love will be Carried Away” was hilarious. It was about a road salesman who would copy down what he thought was high quality graffiti on the bathroom walls of truck stops and other such places. Even though the man himself had a fucked up psyche, he had some funny quotes.

Anyway, I do recommend this to anyone with a taste for horror.

:D
